These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:13)
Salvation is the most important thing in planning for the future. If you are not saved, all the plans you can make will be for nothing. It is possible to be saved and know beyond a doubt that when you die you will go to Heaven. The way to heaven is plain and simple
Realize that everyone is a sinner.
“As it is written, there is none righteous no, not one.”(Rom 3:10)
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God”; (Rom 3:23)
No one is good enough to go to heaven on his own merit. No matter how much good we do, we still fall short.
Understand that God is holy.
“…the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” (Eze 18:4b)
“The wages of sin is death,” (Rom 6:23a)
“Sin when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” (James 1:15)
This infinitely holy God has said that the price of sin is a second death. This death is more than dying with a gunshot wound or with cancer. It is described in Revelation 20:14, “…death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” The Bible never says the wages of sin is church membership, remorse, or baptism. None of these can pay the price for sin, for “without the shedding of blood there is no remission.” (Heb 9:22b)
Sin’s penalty must be paid. Someone must bear the burden. Thankfully for us, Jesus already did!
Believe that Christ died for you.
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isa 53:6)
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Pet 2:24)
The greatest truth is the truth that Jesus Christ took all our sins–past, present and future–and bore them in His own body!
So if Jesus has already paid for our sin, what must we do to be saved?
Receive Jesus as your only Savior.
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1Tim 2:5)
“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.” (Matt 23:9)
Salvation and forgiveness of sins cannot be found in good works, the church, the saints of God, baptism, or anywhere except in Christ Jesus: only Jesus paid for our sins, and only He can be trusted completely for salvation. Look at the following promises from the Bible about Jesus and salvation:
“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Rom 6:23)
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”: (John 1:12)
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36)
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom 10:13)
Call on Christ without delay, knowing that God is faithful to keep his promises. When I was a teenager, I came to know that I was a sinner and needed Christ. I trusted Christ and called on Him for salvation in a prayer like the one below. Would you trust God to forgive your sin because of what Christ did for you, and would you call on Him today?
“Dear Jesus, be merciful to me, a sinner. I believe that You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I believe that trusting you is the only way to Heaven. Save me. Right now, I’m placing my trust in you to save me from hell and to take me to Heaven when I die. I trust You, and I accept Your gift of eternal life. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
